Sustainable development

One might suppose that the Festival of Lights consumes a lot of energy : a few figures to show this isn’t so :

  • 4 days of Festival, with a total electricity bill of 3000 €.
  • Since 2005, the number of projects has doubled, but not the bill.
  • Emphasis is placed on the use of energy and money saving components and materials (in particular using LEDs).
  • The operations policy of recycling glass, Les lumignons du cœur (Candles of the heart) , Place Bellecour, the 8th December.

The City of Lyon’s Public Lighting Department provides advice and assistance and participates in the area of city energy consumption throughout the Festival of Lights and the development of permanent urban lighting.
